Reflections on (an interesting) 2006
For the west coast Titus family, 2006 will go down as a memorable year. As I sit and think about the past year, I am astounded at how different things are since we moved to California nearly 10 years ago (I know, I can't believe it's been that long either!).
2006 is the year that I became the mother of a bonafide teenager-- Andrew turned 13! There is something really magical about that transition. He went from being my little boy to really becoming a friend as well. I was told this would happen but didn't really take it too seriously until he started advising me on things such as my driving strategies at Tahoe ("mom, you need to turn OFF the traction control while driving over black ice") and being "man of the house" when Gary travels (not to mention being my stand-in party date when aforementioned husband is out of town on business. I could mention the fact that he has a bit of facial hair and that he is sometimes mistaken for my brother, but it would just make him mad at me for posting these details on this blog (oops).
Madison had an interesting year as well... in 2006 she transitioned from somewhat of a whiner and difficult child to a really very mature and fun little girl. Her interests as an artist have developed even more and she has ventured out into more friendships, whereas last year she really only had one close friend (paging Tessa V!). Of course Tessa continues to be her best friend but I was happy to see her open up her social circle to include many other girls (and boys too).
2006 was also somewhat of a roller-coaster for us. There was a significant job change that was at the time looked upon with regret, but we always knew it was for the greater good. As a firm believer in destiny I knew it was happening for a reason that would (and did) become more clear as time went on... as events unfolded, everything fell into place and I think we are all now in agreement that someone up there was looking out for us. Sorry for the vagueness but those closest to us will know what this is a reference to.
This year also was memorable for the fun family vacations we took; 2006 took us to New York City, Los Angeles, Tampa, Hawaii, and DisneyWorld in Orlando.
In all, I think we can only hope that 2007 will be just as good! I hesitate to say "even better" because we have been so lucky this past year that I cannot really fathom any better. Plus we have our health, our happiness, and our good friends and family... everything else is icing on the cake. Here's to another great year!!
